provide approximately 18 million EUR for Vietnam to strengthen its
post-secondary education and training system during the 2010-2014
period.
An agreement was signed to this effect by
Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Bich Dat and the
Ambassador of the Netherlands, Joop Scheffers, in Hanoi on February 9.
The agreement covers the implementation of the Netherlands Initiative
for Capacity Development in Higher Education (NICHE) in Vietnam
NICHE--which follows up on the Netherlands Programme for the
Institutional Strengthening of Post-secondary Education and Training
Capacity (NPT)--will focus on the areas of integrated water resource
management, climate change, agriculture, sea transport, health and
higher education.
The programme will support training projects between Vietnamese
ministries, national committees, institutes, training establishments
and agencies with Dutch partners in order to meet the demand for
high-quality and skilled human resources in Vietnam.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ambassador Scheffers said that the
implementation of NICHE will help enhance future cooperation between
Vietnam and the Netherlands .
Vietnam is one of 23 countries benefiting from the programme./.
